Critics Choice Awards Results

It has happened!!! The first Awards show of Awards season was last night - THE CRITICS CHOICE MOVIE AWARDS. The members of the Broadcast Film Association vote on these and for many categories, the winner at this ceremony has gone on to win the Oscar sometimes 9 years in a row (Best Actor). In case you missed them, the results are outlined below. Gotta give this ceremony credit for having a Sci/Fi Action category.

And of course, the big news belonged to Ben Affleck for received Best Actor and Argo for Best Film. In response, Affleck thanked the Academy (bitterly) pointing out the irony that everyone else in his category but himself was nominated for the Oscar.

Shout out to Jennifer Lawrence and Silver Linings Playbook as the frontrunners of the night and to Fat Amy for some HILARIOUS comedy moments.

WINTER TV SEASON UPDATE - WEEK 1

IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!

WINTER TV SEASON HAS BEGUN

Every single year it never fails that come December every single one of my friends asks me what happened to their favorite shows... and then I stare at them and I try to comprehend how after years of watching the same show the fact that networks take holiday season hiatuses EVERY YEAR hasn't sunk in. Yeah it blows to be without your show buuuuuut it also means your show will be on TV just that much longer in the New Year :) But alas, the Winter TV season is raring up and aside from the returns of your favorite shows there are also 23 other shows hitting the small screen in the coming Month- 14 of which are seasoned veterans and 9 of which are brand new. Keep on checking in with me each week for your guide to the premieres to know when to set those Tivo's!

*THE WAY TV WORKS
-In this posting you will see the phrase "mid-season replacement." The networks commonly have back-up shows waiting in the wings just in case the Fall premieres they were banking on being hits get blown to pieces an die during hiatus (Animal Practice, Partners, 666 Park Avenue, Mob Doctor). These timeslots are given to the replacements which don't promise to be any better at all (1600 Penn) but don't count them out because many of them do become bonafide hits (Happy Endings). Some shows do call the Winter season home though like American Idol and Biggest Loser and Smash.

*The Returners denotes that your fav show is back with new episodes

Friday - January 4th
*HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Yes the day has passed but the first premiere of the season should not be overlooked. Last Friday IFC began airing the third season of Fred Armisen's (SNL) AMAZEBALLS sketch comedy show about weird residents of Portland - PORTLANDIA. If you have a sense of humor, you should be watching this show. If you don't have IFC or a TV for that matter, check out the first two seasons on Netflix and don't worry about needing to see any other episode to get it.

The Returners: Last Man Standing, Malibu Country, Shark Tank, Fringe, CSI:NY, Blue Bloods

Saturday - January 5th
*TV Land is silent

Sunday - January 6th
*HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - If you asked me what my favorite Winter season show is, NBC's Biggest Loser would win hands down. I've been checking off days on my calendar to see the brand new season which will be the first to feature children as well as show the return of new lesbian mom Jillian back to the team (we missed you gurrrlll). This show will tug at the heartstrings while motivating you to be the best person you can be, and let's face it, you already are in love with the before and after shots that are going up all over the internet. Check some out here: http://fitbie.msn.com/slideshow/biggest-loser-season-13-finale-spoiler-alert
Also don't miss:
The premiere of PBS's monumental critical smash hit DOWNTON ABBEY (which you should be watching, it's the new Mad Men (as in that adult type drama that you hear so much about that you have to even start pretending you watch it to not sound out of the loop)

The Returners: Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Happy Ending and B- in Apt. 23 (at special day and time), The Good Wife, The Mentalist, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, American Dad.

Monday - January 7th
*BRAND NEW SERIES - I'll leave NBC's DECEPTION for you to decide on whether to watch or not. The peacock network got pretty jealous of ABC's massively popular REVENGE that they pretty much took the concept, switched out characters and picked a like-minded word to capitalize on the same crowd. I'll be checking the pilot for you, but at this point, I'm calling dead-in-the-water unless REVENGE fans switch over from the complicated mess of a web that show has began to spin.
Also don't miss:
Bravo's Housewives' spinoff VANDERPUMP RULES
ABC's premiere of THE BACHELOR

The Returners: Castle

Tuesday - January 8th
*HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Do you like wine? Did you love "Friends"? Then load up COUGAR TOWN as soon as possible. This Courtney Cox vehicle began as midseason replacement on ABC 3 years ago and after serious change ups, an overhaul on the show concept (jokes on the title, there are no cougars), and an unsafe amount of wine consumption this cult favorite has landed a raunchier funnier home on TBS which is now making the series. Check in for Season 4 with the cul-de-sac crew and I promise you will laugh (and be jealous of how much wine they drink).
Also don't miss:
ABC Family's PRETTY LITTLE LIARS
FX's JUSTIFIED

The Returners: Private Practice, NCIS, NCIS:Los Angeles, Vegas, Raising Hope, Ben and Kate, New Girl, Mindy Project, Emily Owens M.D., Parenthood, Betty White's Off Their Rockers

Wednesday - January 9th
*BRAND NEW SERIES - MTV airs new reality series WASHINGTON HEIGHTS (sorry, not at MTV guy) so insteeeaaaad don't forget to watch the guilty pleasure that is........

THE PEOPLE's CHOICE AWARDS!!! Hosted by Haley Cuoco with celebrities galore. All awards are voted on by the public so it's an award show you'll care about but it'll have nothing to do with the big Hollywood events coming up (Golden Globes this Sunday people!!!) But check this out at 8pm on CBS.

The Returners: Whitney, Guys With Kids, Law and Order SVU, Chicago Fire, The Middle, The Neighbors, Modern Family, Suburgatory, Nashville

Thursday - January 10th
*BRAND NEW SERIES - NBC is finally airing the midseason replacement for the Fall failure that was Animal Practice (still sad faced) with the garish looking 1600 Penn following a family in the White House. Seems to be trying to cash in on the recent election but the pilot is lame and the concept can only last so long. No potential to be a big hit.
Also don't miss:
Bravo trying to launch the latest show starring Kathy Griffin: Kathy. It's been done before but if you enjoy the comic you should enjoy this just fine. Craig Ferguson on CBS's Late Late Show is all I need though.

The CW is airing THE CRITICS CHOICE MOVIE AWARDS at 7pm. Check this out for tell tale signs of the Globe's results!

The Returners: Last Resort, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, The Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest, Two and a Half Men, Elementary, 30 Rock, The Office, Mobbed

Friday - January 11th
*BRAND NEW SERIES - Cinemax is launching the intense drama BANSHEE about an ex-con pretending to be a small-town sheriff. It's paid cable so you know it'll be good.

Saturday - January 12th
*The 2013 Miss America Pageant will be broadcast live on ABC at 8pm.

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK AS WE DELVE INTO THE BRAND NEW WINTER TV SEASON!
