Are the Globes so Golden?

It's that time of year people. The time when we rub the TV from our eyes and turn our attention toward the crop of film's from the silver screen that are garnering the attention of the countless organizations that pass out the gold throughout the months of December, January, and February. Perfect timing for TV aficionados because all our favorite shows are on hiatus now anyways so off to the big dark room we all should go in order to actually be able to enjoy the award shows to come because God knows none of the nominees came out before November (which is ridiculous considering the award covers the entire year but alas we play along). The Golden Globes kicks off the season for the general public as the 2nd glitziest affair behind the Oscars. The noms are already out and can be seen below if you missed them and as usual there are upsets and there are "well of course they got its" but the real mystery is what this little statuette even counts for. Most would argue that the award itself (given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press) is really quite a pointless award as far as the public should be concerned  because it's a shamble of thrown together categories spread out across two mediums and packing no real punch. Everyone knows the top prize for Primetime TV is the Emmy and the movies are run by Oscar, so where does that leave the Golden Globe? In pointless land with the rest of the hundreds of categories? No, there is a point, because the Globes are the biggest tell tale sign of what will probably be nominated by the Academy which is always fun. But after a slew of gross hosts (Ricky Gervais anyone?) it doesn't really matter in the end because what we really care about is seeing all of entertainment's most famous people in the same place in one night regardless of the occasion (that's why my TiVo is filled with telethons!). That idea trumps the fact that nobody even knows what the Hollywood Foreign Press is or what the award really means, because we know that the Globes are approachable. It's a place where comedies get a chance, where television is put on an equal soapbox as film, and where the guests can lay back and drink a little bit more knowing that the Oscars are still a ways away. That being said, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD LEAVE GAME OF THRONES OUT OF OUTSTANDING DRAMA?!?!?!?! And Madeleine Stowe from Revenge for lead drama actress?!?!?!? COME ON!?!? Freaking Globes...
