SPRING TV SEASON - It has only just begun

SPRING TV SEASON PREMIERES IN FULL SWING

It's been a long Spring Break for me but I'm back because the best of Spring TV is already coming out of the waterworks hoping to get a piece of the action. At this point, most of your Fall favorites are winding up their full seasons and will finale in the next four weeks while some already have (The Neighbors, The New Normal, Biggest Loser, etc.). All of these shows have to be replaced so we have many new offerings and let's not forget that HBO hits it's stride in Spring and Summer (True Blood excitement anyone?). The TV game has changed a bit in the last few weeks though. Not only is cable's "The Walking Dead" beating out normal broadcast shows (even American Idol which is unheard of) but so is the likes of "Game of Thrones" (which people have to pay for!) AND History Channel's "The Bible" even. What does this mean for Broadcast TV? Why is NBC sucking so much? One can only wonder if next season, we see the broadcast networks bring zombies back like the vampire craze a few years ago. Hope for TV fans of canceled shows was also reignited when the creator's of "Veronica Mars" (a Kristen Bell vehicle from 10 years ago) secured a production budget for a reboot movie... through KICKSTARTER (that means fan money). I hope they use this to bring Pushing Daisies back to the screen. But regardless, the TV field is seeing many changes and one can only get excited for what's to come.

*THE WAY TV WORKS

Renewals last week of SupernaturalArrow and The Vampire Diaries were ALREADY ANNOUNCED!!!
Although many  renewal (and a few cancellation) announcements for broadcast TV primetime shows for the 2013-14 season will happen prior to these dates, the broadcast network upfront events are the final date on which each network's 2013 Fall schedules might be revealed.
So, you'll know no later than these dates* about the fate of your favorite broadcast primetime shows.

Cable networks also have advertising upfront events spread throughout March, April and May, and while they often announce new shows at them they aren't typically "the day all renewals and cancellations are finally revealed" as are the broadcast events.

*HOT RETRUNER- The long-awaited return of "Game of Thrones" third season is finally back on HBO. The third season will cover the first half of Book 3, and as someone who reads the books, you are in for some intense surprises. This is literally the hottest show of Spring, so if you haven't started, take the time to watch the first 20 episodes to catch up and bask in George RR Martin's masterpiece that schools Lord of the Rings.

*HOT FINALE - The Walking Dad sings off for the year by wrapping it's 3rd monumental season. But even going head-to-head with THE BIBLE and GAME OF THRONES, it not only one in ratings, but set a series high beating all other shows on TV. That's a hit ladies and gentleman.

The Returners

Monday - April 1st

*HOT HOT HOT!- If you aren't watching A & E's (yeah, you heard the channel right) BATES MOTEL, you are missing out on the creepiest show since American Horror Story. I didn't expect much when I sat down for the first episode and now it's the first show I watch on my TiVo list. The first episode will have your jaw dropped the entire time as a grown up Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Choc Factory) reincarnates one of the best horror characters in cinema history. I IMPLORE you to tune in.

Tuesday - April 2nd

*Time slot shake-up - Dancing With the Stars has hit ABC, taking over reality Tuesday from The Taste. Let me say... I HATE THIS SHOW. Awful prod. value, awful dancing, awful concept, non-celebrities, BLEH. If you want to see a dancing show done right, wait till May and tune into FOX's WAY SUPERIOR So You Think You Can Dance. Enough Said.

*HOT FINALE - NBC's The NEW NORMAL had it's finale tonight and saw our daddy hopefuls getting way closer to their new baby ;). This show has been a roller coaster of ups and downs and I still don't know why I'm still watching but some part of me loves to see a portrayal of a situation I might be in one day, trying to have a baby with my own husband. And for that visibility, I thank it for this season and wish it a 2nd.

DVD CORNER: The following movies will be available in stores today:

John Dies At The End
Hemmingway and Gelhorn
Marvel Phase One Box Set

Wednesday - April 3rd

*New Show- Here's your first new premiere of the week! ABC is introducing this new comedy where the title says all. If the pic above says anything, I'm expecting it to fail. We already have cute moms on tv, and please don't cross you arms like that... It does have Brad Garret in it, so we shall have to wait and see with this one. Watch it and leave your own comments below!

Thursday - April 4th

*HOT PREMIERE- If any Spring Show has high anticipation it's NBC's HANNIBAL. The failing network needs something to liven up it's schedule and HANNIBAL may just be it. EW has already given it an A and it's receiving critical praise. If you are a fan, this incarnation starts as a prequel showing Hannibal coming into his iconic self but at it's heart, it's a serialized crime-of-the-week cop show.

Friday - April 5th

*SAVE HAPPY ENDINGS Curiously, ABC has begun to air ads for this beloved show with the phrase "Save Happy Endings." It's obvious that the network doesn't want to stop making the show but all you who won't watch it aren't helping. TV's funniest comedy is airing the rest of it's season back-to-back on Friday's before Shark Tank now for one funny hour replacing the already finalied shows LAST MAN STANDING and MALIBU COUNTRY. Here's to TBS saving this AWESOME show like they did COUGAR TOWN.

MOVIE CORNER: The following movies open in theaters today:

 - [3D re-release]

Saturday - April 6th

*EPIC FAIL- SMASH is setting unwatched on... SATURDAY nights! If moving a show to Friday is the death nail, than moving a show to Saturday is murder. Goodbye SMASH, it's been real.

*SNLTonight's episode will feature Melissa McCarthy as host!

Sunday - April 7th

*HOT RETURNER- With THE WALKING DEAD gone, MAD MEN is back to take it's time slot and treat viewers to one of the spiciest, sexiest, BEST shows on TV. MAD MEN was the original game changer 7 years ago when it proved that AMC and cable could make better TV, and now look at AMC's lineup today. Thank you Mad Men.

*Awards Show- It's not the CMA's but if you are a fan of country music, it's still a star-studded event filling with awesome performances. Check it out on CBS.

HAPPY WATCHING
