WINTER TV SEASON UPDATE - WEEK 7

WINTER TV SEASON PREMIERES WIND DOWN

We are coming to an end of the Winter TV season premieres. With the Academy Awards exactly one week away focus is shifting towards grading the nominated films but tonight we'll look one last time into the final premieres headed your way because eventually, the networks are going to have to tell you what they are renewing and what they aren't (if you want to know the specific date, check out the section below!)! Like the rest of you (well hopefully) I've been trying to pack in all of the nominations before the big night. I have a few tricks up my sleeve to help you out with this without breaking your budget. For movie streaming links check out this website:

If you are trying to see the other animated foreign or live action shorts, you can go see them at the Landmark Century art house theater on Halsted and Clark!

Recently I saw a few of my own and I have some words to say:
Rust & Bone: OMG, it's beautiful and captivating. Very moving and highly recommended.
Anna Karenina: Yes, the filmic style was impressive but... it was a little boring for me and hard to understand due to the compression of the monstrous novel, Keira Knightly is always a delight to watch in a period film though.
Hyde Park on Hudson: Ewwww, it was pointless to me. The main character was a skittish bore and it took way too many liberties of historical innacuracy. If you want to see former president FDR get a hand job in a field of flowers then by all means watch it.
The Master: Okay.... I'm just going to say it... BLEH. I disliked it immensely... and you may disagree but the thing is... who wants to watch a film about this. YES the performances were mesmerizing and the cinematography is beautiful but no one wants the style to be the carrying notion of the film. I found another explanation that really summed up my feelings: It was just so boring.
The art direction and cinematography are beautiful, otherwise skip it.There was tremendous buzz when this movie was first shown at festivals – buzz that has slightly cooled. One of my podcasts suggested that this movie is a case of it being “uncool” to dislike the movie: to dislike Paul Thomas Anderson is to not understand his genius.
Wanting to be cool – that’s how kids start taking drugs.
I may be reacting harshly, but i'm so tired of being so excited to watch an Oscar contender only to be forlorn as to what everyone was seeing that I missed. I even went to Entertainment Weekly for answers and their snooty critic said (you have to watch it twice to grasp it's magnificence) really??? It's not enough to see it once.... uggggggggggggg. Anyways, i'm done.

What do you think???? At what point do you get fed up with films or do you think my opinion is totally misguided? Please feel free to comment but regardless, the joy of seeing these movies is to argue and agree and to simple experience these films we wouldn't normally have watched.

With that, enjoy the TV to come this week!

So, you'll know no later than these dates* about the fate of your favorite broadcast primetime shows.
