2013 Fall TV Premieres - Week 2

Fall - WEEK 2

Enough with these pre-shows! THE MILLION SECOND QUIZ is fizzling out due to it's tough learning curve and complexity and last week marked finale week for all of our favorite Summer programs so it's about time the networks unleashed their content. Week 2 of premieres is owned primarily by FOX. Most of the offerings come from this brash and bold network with a speckling of ABC and CBS just to add some competition. Below, you will find week 2's guide to premieres! All new shows will come with recommendation bars and links to check out their trailers. Also keep on the look out for our guest bloggers who will be chiming in on what they thought of the pilots later this week! (Note: all TV times are Central time)

Don't have a cable or a TIVO? No problem! Find all of your favorite shows online for streaming one day after airing on project free tv here:

The Guide

Sunday, Sept. 15th
LIV & MADDIE (New!) 7pm on Disney
It may come as a surprise, but the first show out of the gate this weekend comes from the Disney Channel! LIV & MADDIE brings the same technique that had Lindsay Lohan playing twins in The Parent Trap to TV. Newcomer (and soon to be Miley Cyrus/Selena Gomez disney princess mouse house queen replacement) Dove Cameron will play both title characters, one a normal teen, and the other, a famous celebrity sister that returns home to go back to normal high school after becoming famous. Can they get along? We'll find out! From the preview, this actually looks pretty entertaining so we give it:
RECOMMENDED!

Monday, Sept. 16th

Dancing with the Stars (Returner!) 7pm on ABC
The new cast of ABC's not as good as So You Think You Can Dance dance show is listed for you below. There are some shockers on here so watch if you must but if you really love dance than you should have watched FOX's show this past Summer.

  • Bill Nye the Science Guy, with new dancer Tyne Stecklein
  • Brant Daugherty (Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives), with Peta Murgatroyd
  • Jack Osbourne, reality TV star, with Cheryl Burke
  • Bill Engvall (The Bill Engvall Show) with former troupe member Emma Slater
  • Keyshawn Johnson, former NFL wide receiver, with Sharna Burgess
  • Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), with Karina Smirnoff
  • Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi (Jersey Shore), with former troupe member Sasha Farber
  • Christina Milian, singer/actor, with Mark Ballas
  • Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls), with Val Chmerkovskiy
  • Amber Riley (Glee), with Derek Hough
  • Leah Remini (King of Queens), with Tony Dovolani

  • We say:
    WATCH IF YOU MUST!

    BONES (Returner!) 7pm on FOX
Bones is one of the most popular shows on TV with a rapid fan base. Everyone at Keepin' it Reel knows multiple addicts and I even had to watch almost a whole season in my high school AP Bio class.  It's entering it's 9th season this year and for that we give it the TV Royalty rating meaning there is no rating necessary, it's already winning and it's not going anywhere.

SLEEPY HOLLOW (New!) 8pm on FOX
In this update on the timeless tale of Ichabod Crane and his rapport with the Headless Horsemen we find our titular characters waking up in present day. It's a cool concept, albeit nothing new idea wise. But the pre-showings are turning up good word of mouth and it promises to be a creepy offering for horror fans. I'm already loving it too and therefore we give it a:
    RECOMMENDED!

    Tuesday, Sept. 17th
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE (New!) 7:30pm on FOX
Andy Samberg is back on the small screen for the first time since leaving SNL in this funny cop comedy. The funny cop thing has been done before but Samberg brings the funny (and the star power) that might just make this one work. Andre Braugher plays a gay police chief opposite him giving it more points on our end. The show looks promising but as the comedians pointed out on the Roast of James Franco, how many story lines can this sitcom produce before having to come to terms with the serious things that cops usually have to take care of (like rape)? Regardless, we give it a:
    RECOMMENDED!

    DADS (New!) 7:00pm on FOX
Before Samberg, Seth Green tries to bring the funny in this new comedy from Seth MacFarlane. Two adult video game designers are annoyed when their dads have to move in with them. Okay... the premise is bad enough, but the trailer is even worse. A concept like this can't last on a mjaor network and we are predicting this show to be canceled before it hits 8 episodes. Maybe if it were on Comedy Central or FX, but it didn't happen. Therefore, we give it a:
    NOT GOING TO LAST!

NEW GIRL (Returner!) 8:00pm on FOX
If you aren't watching NEW GIRL, who are you? Zooey Deschanel stars in this massively successful hit following the lives of four roommates as they try to live together. With Nick & Jess' relationship, Schmitt's shenanigans and the return of Coach, season 3 is not to be missed. My only detractor is the character of Winston which in my opinion is pointless and does nothing, but the writers usually have him written out so all is good! Next year, New Girl will hit season 4's magical syndication number and enter TV royalty status so jump on the bandwagon now!
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THE MINDY PROJECT (Returner!) 8:30pm on FOX
For everyone that watches NEW GIRL but not THE MINDY PROJECT... SHAME ON YOU!!!!! This comedy is almost three times better than it's predecessor and completely under watched. This is one of the first shows to get watched on my TIVO and sometimes multiple times. The comedy is gold and relevant and the ensemble is perfect in every way with some of the best acting in the genre. Season 2's opener features James Franco and that should be another reason for all of you to WATCH, as you should because without Happy Endings returning this year, The Mindy Project is my saving grace.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Wednesday, Sept. 18th
SURVIVOR: Blood Vs. Water (Returner!) 7:00pm on CBS
CBS's famous reality series is back and this time it's returning contestants versus... THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND LOVED ONES! How awesome! Will fiancés turn on each other? Brothers align with sisters? Who knows! If you have never seen an episodes of Survivor, you should because this show is a pop culture phenom that has added so much to the pantheon of culture references. It's  a good time and if you are a Big Brother fan than hop on this band wagon because it's the same concept but happening on an island. We give it a:
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

BIG BROTHER finale (Special Event!) 8:30pm on CBS
It's been a long Summer and whether you watch Big Brother or not, the whole world followed the incredible controversy of the racist comments and homophobia running rampant in this social experiment game. Viewers turned on CBS and CBS gave the country what it wanted, something to talk about. Because of the news coverage, thousands tuned in and ratings are up 15%. EVERYONE will be watching this Wendesday for the 1.5 hour live finale when the winner is crowned, not to see who wins, but to see what happens when contestant Aaryn Gries is finally told that she was one of the most hated people in America and fired from her jobs. I can't wait to see host Julie Chen grill the contestants about one of Summer's hottest topics.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Thursday, Sept. 19th
THE X FACTOR (Returner!) 7:00pm on FOX
Last year's outing was mildly successful with the launch of groups FIFTH HARMONY and EMBLEM 3. The third season came back last week but is still the only Fall offering on Thursday so far. Check it out if only to see Demi and Simon go at each other.
    RECOMMENDED!

    Friday, Sept. 20th
LAST MAN STANDING (Returner!) 7:00pm on ABC
This Tim Allen vehicle graced by last year with it's season 3 renewal. Though troubled be a complete recasting last season, this show still brings the funny and the cast all pulls their weight. I actually enjoy it as a guilty pleasure and am glad to see it back. Concept? It's Home Improvement with the genders swapped.
    RECOMMENDED!

THE NEIGHBORS (Returner!) 7:30pm on ABC
OMG, I love this show. I couldn't be happier that ABC brought this black sheep back for a second season. There is nothing like The Neighbors on TV and the wacky story that follows a regular family that moves into a colony of aliens pretending to be humans is surprisingly accessible. It reminds us how off we as human beings are and never fails to hit the viewer in the heartstrings to show us the meaning of family.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

SHARK TANK (Returner!) 8:00pm on ABC
It's season 5, and Shark Tank is getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Last year, it solidified itself as the beast of Friday's taking down all competition. Viewership has been growing in heaps since last season and this tale of five financial investors tearing at each other for stakes in start-up companies is more addicting than ever. It will make you feel smarter, you can buy the products they invest in, AND it inspires the millionaire inside all of us to get off the couch and do something!
    HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
