2013 Fall TV Premieres - Week 5

Fall - WEEK 5

The premieres haven't even concluded and already the bloodshed has begun. ABC's "Lucky 7" was actually pretty good but no one watched it, and what happens when no one watches a show? The network pretends like it never existed, takes it off the air, hides it from the world, and airs reruns of more successful shows (Scandal). It may seem harsh, but we must never forget that TV doesn't exist for your entertainment, it's a business, and a cut throat one at that. It's the final week of premieres unfortunately. The CW joins the game here in Week 5 and after that, there are only a sprinkling of returns throughout October and November (Walking Dead, Raising Hope, Dracula). I know what you are thinking, why do you cover The CW? Well, in the landscape of commercial TV, The CW is actually a broadcast network just like ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS. They are the big 5 and that's why it matters what content it puts out. Keepin' it Reel will still continue to cover returning TV but next week, look forward to the ratings list to see what is on it's way to being cancelled and what is on its way to TV royalty. Beyond that, October means OSCAR season, so take some time to hit the theaters because this is the time of the year that the good stuff comes out. Now, ON WITH THE GUIDE!

Don't have a cable or a TIVO? No problem! Find all of your favorite shows online for streaming one day after airing on project free tv here:

The Guide
(I call this young heart throb love triangle edition in honor of The CW network)

Sunday, Oct. 6th

Witches of East End (NEW!) 9pm on LIFETIME
If I could, I'd never put a Lifetime show in my guide list but I can't pretend the network doesn't exist. Even if the trailer above looked cool, I can't watch the content produced here... I'll read Nicholas Sparks but even I have my limits.
Bleh!

Monday, Oct. 7th

Hart of Dixie (Returner!) 7pm on The CW
I feel like the show descriptions for every CW show will be the same. Attractive young person in a new situation where a female get's wrapped up in a love triangle. This one has cute southern accents and a great lead so maybe it stands a part? It got another season so go ahead and keep enjoying.
RECOMMENDED!

Beauty & the Beast (Returner!) 8pm on The CW
I'm all for bringing back old concepts with new twists (i.e. Once Upon a Time) but this isn't how to do it right at all. This show BARELY scraped by last year and only lasted because The CW couldn't cancel ALL of it's new shows. Not a fan of this love triangle.
NOT RECOMMENDED!

Tuesday, Oct. 8th

The Biggest Loser 15: Second Chances (HOT Returner!) 7pm on NBC
I don't even know how to describe my love for this show. The Biggest Loser in essence is a weight loss competition but what you can't put into words is the inspiration and emotion one feels when they watch a broken person piece there lives back together, deal with their demons, and put forth the effort that exists within us all to show America that change is possible. This show inspired me to lose weight and trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Russel are enough to watch the show. This season, Ruben Studdard (winner of American Idol Season 2) joins the cast as the very first celebrity on the show. MUST WATCH, but don't forget the kleenexes.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (Chad's Fav)

Supernatural (Returner!) 8pm on The CW
The CW owns two of the hottest properties in the broadcast space, The Vampire Diaries and... the wildly successful Supernatural. It's the 9th season for this cult favorite following some incredibly hot men as they investigate the supernatural world. Highly addictive, and prime for fandom. Plus, you can find lots of gay fan fiction putting the male leads in a love triangle.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Wednesday, Oct. 9th

Arrow (Returner!) 7pm on The CW
Fresh off the boat last year, Arrow tried to inherit the space left by Smallville. Young hot superhero Arrow in a show chalk full of references to other famous capers and high fliers. Watch it (if only for the hot man on the poster in a love triangle)
RECOMMENDED!

The Tomorrow People (NEW!) 8pm on The CW
In this new action drama, the younger brother of the man behind ARROW, stars as a time-shifter. A secret group of individuals that can travel into the future are being hunted down, and did I mention there are all hot young people in love triangles?
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

American Horror Story: Coven (NEW!) 9pm on FX
This show needs no introduction. The most twisted creation of the last five years has to me the American Horror Story franchise. Ryan Murphy's ugly baby is in it's third iteration after the wildly beloved critical darling "Asylum" last year. Coven brings back some of the biggest stars like Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange with newcomers Kathy Bates and Precious. You'll even see a MUCH more adult acting Emma Roberts in this twisted take on the war between Salem and Louisiana witches. Not for the faint of heart.
MUST WATCH!

Thursday, Oct. 10th

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (NEW!) 7pm on ABC
The spin-off in TV world is an interesting concept. A show becomes so popular that networks try to capitalize with spin-offs that almost never work out right or begin to tire concepts (i.e. Private Practice from Grey's Anatomy). Luckily with this one, ABC gets this concept and has planned this spin-off as a 1 season only special event, telling a tale that will compliment and work into the already popular Once Upon a Time drama on Sundays. With stars like Naveen Andrews from LOST, this series is prime time gold.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Friday, Oct. 11th

No premieres tonight (which is good because you should be watching Shark Tank anyways)

Saturday, Oct. 12th

Saturday Night Live (Special!) 10:30pm on NBC
Bruce Willis will be hosting this week's SNL, and us viewers will still be trying to learn the names of the 6 new cast members.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

MOVIE MADNESS

DVD's & Music Available (starting Tuesday Oct. 8th)
And YES, that is a BRAND NEW Chucky horror movie you see being released this Tuesday. It didn't get the theater treatment but it's definitely worth a watch!

Movies Opening in Theaters (starting Friday Oct. 4th)

That's it for Week 5, Happy Watching!
